Mabruk & Shanah Tovah!

 

This year both the Islamic and Jewish new year begin on the very same day!

For Muslims, the most common greeting is Mabruk [congratulations], followed by a short all encompassing prayer,

‘Kullu ‘Aam was Sa’aada tarafiqakum, kullu ‘Aam wa Antum bikhair.’

[May the new year bring you happiness and may you be in the best of health]

Much the same, the Jewish greeting is both a greeting and too a prayer,

‘Shanah Tovah.’

[[Have] a good year]
